Nintendo’s Latest Patent Aims To Stop A Mechanic Found In FromSoftware And Atlus Games
Elden Ring and Persona, beware.
Nintendo's patents have long posed a threat to the video game industry. We discussed it in 2023 in relation to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and we saw it in full force last year, when Nintendo announced it was taking Palworld developer Pocketpair to court over alleged patent infringement. The company is seeking five million yen for each of the three different patents it claimed Palworld copied, including one that deems the game's Pal Spheres too similar to Poke Balls.
