Pokemon Was Better When The Console Games Were More Like XD: Gale Of Darkness
Weird GameCube RPG Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness remains special 20 years later.
On this day in 2005, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness launched in Japan. The second Pokemon RPG developed for the Nintendo GameCube, Gale of Darkness, was a sequel to Colosseum, which had taken the 3D battling gameplay of the N64’s Stadium games out of the arena and into a more fully realized world. With Colosseum, you got to head out onto the routes, cities, warehouses, and wilderness that defined the handheld Pokemon games. Gale of Darkness took the structure of Colosseum and, as the ominous title would suggest, made it darker.
