Silent Hill 2 is now considered the benchmark for quality that all Silent Hill games need to strive for.
Silent Hill has had a very rocky last few years, as Konami has made both successful and disastrous attempts to try and revive the series. For every Silent Hill 2 Remake, there was a Silent Hill Ascension or Short Message to drag the reputation of the series back down again. It's been extremely hit-and-miss for the series so far, but one game that is aiming for the former is the upcoming Silent Hill f.
